Heart to Hand
Heart to Hand was founded in 1992 and believes in giving from the heart to the hand that needs. It provides a nationwide transportation and distribution service that enables collection and delivery of donor food to local and national registered centres and charities in Ireland that are helping those in greatest danger of food poverty. Heart to Hand is an Irish-registered charity, operates on an entirely volunteer basis, and has no paid staff.
The support from the JP McManus Benevolent Fund:
Donated a chilled van to Heart to Hand which has enabled the initiative to expand the collection and delivery service to include chilled food products with full traceability and product control in addition to the ambient range. Chilled foods, including meat and dairy products, that would previously have been discarded are now delivered to 20 charities on a twice weekly basis and therefore available for distribution by Heart to Hand’s charity partners and to those in greatest need. In Limerick, the organisation also receives support from Munster Logistics in relation to the provision of warehouse space and distribution support services.
