Our Lady Queen of Peace Development Group
The aim of Our Lady Queen of Peace Development Group is to improve the quality of life for all persons who live in the local community. Our Lady Queen of Peace Group seeks to achieve this through the provision of services such as Meals on Wheels, Community Adult Education Classes and through support to the local Active Retirement Club.
The population of Our Lady Queen of Peace parish is an aging one and many residents are also socially isolated as friends may have passed away or family members may not live nearby. The Meals on Wheels Service provides quality, healthy meals to these members of the community at an affordable price and offers valuable daily interaction essential to their social needs. The service runs five days a week and delivers, on average, 60-70 meals a day in the area. It was established in 2008 and has a voluntary management committee. The community kitchen which was funded through the HSE Services to Older People is staffed through the Local Community Employment Scheme therefore providing work opportunities in the area.
The support from the JP McManus Benevolent Fund:
- Enabled the Meals on Wheels delivery van to be replaced, thereby maintaining the service to the community.
